š»š» as I meet Cornellians, thereās an emotional heaviness, that I donāt really talk about, but it weighs on me, the illnesses, the deaths, the funerals, feelings of deep sadness, the losses cut deep
- the Cornellian who came to the zoom calls, from the hospital bed, and I learned about his passing when the email bounced
- the Cornellian who shared interesting videos for me to watch, who passed away by suicide, after a few weeks of silence
- the Cornellian who had cancer, then there was hope of remission, but a few weeks later, the obituary on social media
I learned to appreciate the limited time we have together, to listen and empathize through the sad times, I learned how to accept the helpless feeling that not all problems can be solved, that things donāt always get better, that there are permanent patches of darkness
this holiday season, I am thankful for all the time I get to spend with Cornellians, that I get to spend time with them when things are happy, that I get to spend time with them when things are sad
