🐻🎉 Cornell Debate Team has 100 students, sends 13 teams to the Universities Debating Championships each year, and has seeded many successful Cornell programs. The Cornell Prison Education Program sends Cornell debaters to teach debate at Auburn Correctional Facility. The Cornell Spanish Debate Team is top in the US, and travels to Chile to compete in the World Spanish Debate Tournament. I studied applied physics, and debated the British Parliamentary format. I learned skills (how to form arguments, public speaking), I learned how to see issues from multiple sides (we are assigned a side by random), and I made many friends from the tournaments (who went on to become lawyers, politicians, doctors, engineers, business). Sam Nelson has run the Cornell debate team for 20 years, is building an endowment for the Cornell debate team. The 100 debaters use the money to rent buses and hotel rooms, to participate in debate tournaments. The Cornell Debate Team has a crowdfunding campaign for $30k, and has a new email newsletter that comes out every semester. Links in the comments.
