🐻🚀 Cornell puts together an incredible preliminary plan, for the future of Cornell!! academia is going through major changes, and it’s important to have a vision: AI/tech change, government-Cornell relationship changes, erosion of public trust in universities I really liked the focus on public engagement, how Cornell has a responsibility to help society move through the AI change and disruption!! it is in Cornell’s strengths of cooperative extensions, research translation, and land grant university!! Cornell has been doing this since 1865, and it’s ever more important now, as AI and new trends change society! I also like how Cornell is a human-centered university, there’s so much human parts that AI isn’t able to do: to foster discovery, creativity, innovation, enable lifelong learning, human judgment, and more! I also like the focus on thick relationships that connect students and faculty and alumni to the institution and shape who they become!! as well as collaboration and pluralism between departments and colleges!! the Committee on the Future of the American University did a fantastic job, connecting with the community, they held 200 events and reached 2200 individuals for their thoughts!! I look forward to their report, and the implementation of vision, over the years!!
