🐻🥼 Cornell Tech HealthNext Summit was so inspirational!! - Arianna Huffington spoke about healthy habits! - Congressman Ted Lieu spoke about healthcare legislation! - the CEO of MSK (top cancer hospital) spoke about innovation in large hospitals! - Cornell Tech startups shared their startup journey! - former FDA Commissioner spoke about medical funding! - Dean of Weill Cornell spoke about medical education! - and so much more wonderful speakers!! I loved the variety of speakers, it showed how healthcare is transforming in so many dimensions! Common trends: - AI: everyone talked about AI, how AI could help the patients, reduce the administrative work of doctors, discover more therapeutics, and so much more! - Patient Focus: patients are more empowered now, with the wearable devices (lots of Oura rings), all the new technology is rebalancing the doctor-patient relationship, telehealth can help patients in rural areas, patient mental health is important because it leads to better outcomes - Entrepreneurship: there’s a lot more systems in place to access data (like FHIR), and a lot more innovative doctors wanting to try new technologies (like the Weill Cornell emergency department), and a variety of funding resources to start new startups (Nvidia inception program, Cornell Tech Runway program), it’s an exciting time to be a healthcare startup! Healthcare is changing rapidly, and Cornell leads the way!! - Education: the Cornell Tech’s Health Tech masters program (learn about patient records, billing codes, medicaid/medicare data, FHIR!), the Cornell EMBA/MS program, Weill Cornell MS programs (Computation Bio, Population Health, and more!), Weill Cornell Medical students (many are taking AI classes from the Cornell Tech campus too!!) - Research: top researchers come to Cornell Tech and Weill Cornell, because of the deep collaboration between the two campuses (separated by a short 20 minute tram ride!!) - Commercialization: Cornell Tech Runway program turns PhDs into entrepreneurs (with amazing successes!!), Weill Cornell bioventure elab has amazing commercialization programs (like the 4/1 Biomedical Innovation Conference, and weekly programming on patents and startup pitches!), Center for Technology Licensing has amazing commercialization programs (Ignite matches entrepreneurs and interns, classes match MBAs with PhDs), and Hackathons almost every weekend!! (super excited for the Cornell Health Hackathon this weekend, when Cornell students come to NYC to compete!!)
