🐻🇷🇪 Guy Pignolet, PhD ’73, grew up in Reunion Island, (a small island, east of Africa, population 870k), he came to Cornell for his PhD in policy research, and returned to Reunion Island afterwards. He saw that Reunion Island did not have a flag, so he designed a flag for Reunion Island. The red triangle symbolizes the volcanos on the island, and the rays of light yellow symoblizes the diversity of where everyone on Reunion Island came from.
