🐻🦅 Last year, I drove 5 hours to Rumford, Maine, the hometown of Ed Muskie, LLB 1939, the best US Senator from Maine. I wanted to understand where he came from, and how we can get another one. Rumford is a beautiful mill town. It felt a world away from Ithaca and DC. The son of an immigrant tailor, Ed Muskie excelled in school and became a champion debater. He studied law at Cornell, served in the Navy, and came back home to Maine to run a small law firm. At 32, he ran for the Maine House as a Democrat in the most Republican state. Asked why he was a Democrat in Maine, he replied "Somebody has to do it." He won, and 8 years later, he won again to become Governor of Maine. America only works when the best people run for office. If you live in Maine, please consider running for US Senate. Maine could use another Muskie.
