Mobile uploads 🐻 voting is critical for democracy. in 1964, during the civil rights movement, Michael Schwerner ’61 was murdered by the KKK, while registering African Americans to vote in Mississippi. Sage Chapel has a stained glass window honoring his memory. it reads: "In Memory of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and our classmate Michael Schwerner, who were slain during the 1964 voter registration drive in Mississippi, and all others who died for the advancement of civil rights and racial equality in our country. From the Class of 1961." Michael grew up in Westchester, studied rural sociology at Cornell, and then worked in the civil rights movement in NYC and Mississippi. it is important to vote.
