🐻🎉 119 Cornellians came to NYC Food Court Event last night!! I think of events in terms of Structure and Culture. I always do a simple Structure, so that it’s easy to organize (we just meet at the Food Court), and I always do a consistent Structure, so that it’s easy to scale (most attendees have come before, they know the location, they know what to expect)
Culture is the most important, a Culture where Cornellians make friends with each other (not transactional, but real friendships). When marketing the event, I say it over and over again, and in the reminder email, I encourage everyone to make new friends, so that at the Food Court Event, everyone is looking to make new friends, and it becomes reality!
over time, the Culture is maintained by the Cornellians who come to the Food Court regularly, the regulars make friends with the new attendees, introduce them to more Cornellians, and everyone comes back again and again to see the friends they’ve made at the Food Court
and most importantly, the Culture is only possible, because Cornell is so wonderful, Any Person, Any Study, we come from all kinds of different backgrounds, and we go into all kinds of different industries, yet we are all Cornellians, building lifelong friendships with each other
