Mobile uploads 🐻🏠 I visited the oldest house in Manhattan, a Cornellian is Trustee for the Morris-Jumel House, built in 1765, George Washington stayed in the house for a few months during the war!! It’s really important to preserve the history of the house, schoolchildren visit it on field trips, and thousands of visitors get tours of it each year! Hamilton the musical was partly written in it (Aaron Burr has a special room in the house!!) I learned about the restoration project, to replace the wooden pillar that fell down last year, and to fix the wooden siding on the house. It is difficult to restore the house historically accurately, because building materials have changed so much (the older historic materials like oak wood are not as available and not as easy to work with as modern materials). I am glad to hear about all the efforts of the local government and neighborhood associations to work together to restore the house and preserve the history!!
