Mobile uploads 🐻🌳 In networking, weak ties are the most powerful: - Quantity: you have far more weak ties than strong ties, so you reach far more people with your weak ties - Coverage: weak ties are far more expansive than strong ties (ie different cities, different industries, different age ranges, different friend groups), so you have far more coverage with your weak ties The Problem: But it’s harder to maintain a large network of weak ties, because you won’t be able to know them as well as your strong ties, you might have met them only briefly at a large event, people forget people over time, you may never see them again, and a short time is really hard to build rapport. The Solution: meet more Cornellians!! it is much easier to build rapport when you have shared experience (like going up the slope in the snow!!) It is a very dense network, so even if you don’t see a weak tie for a few years, you still hear about them through mutual friends. You’ll most likely run into each other again in the future (meet more Cornellians, go to more Cornell events, come to Reunion every year!!) I’m organizing an NYC Food Court event on Wed 1/17, 6pm-10pm, at The Hugh’s food court (601 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10022), we usually get 50-100 Cornellians, I really hope you can come, and meet more Cornellians!! Cornellians come to meet more Cornellians, and see Cornellians they’ve met at previous Food Court events!! Meeting Cornellians is the best way to grow your network of weak ties, and maintaining it over the decades!! Please let me know if you can come!!
