🐻💼 Cornell Student Agencies is searching for a new CEO, ideally a Cornellian with 20+ years operating experience in a variety of industries, looking to move back to Ithaca and give back. The CEO is mostly a teaching position, the student managers are responsible for profits & losses, the CEO provides mentorship and continuity over the years. For example, the current CEO, Kyle Karnes ’91, worked in consulting, startup from founding to ipo, corp dev, sell-side m&a advisory, and is now retiring as Student Agencies CEO after 10 years.
In 1894, Seth Higby started the Student Laundry Agency, while he was studying at Cornell, he used a horse-and-carriage to pick up and wash laundry for his fellow classmates. When he graduated, he sold the business to a younger undergrad, and the business was passed down generation after generation.
Since then, Student Agencies has grown to 7 businesses, generating $4mm annual revenue, with 3 full-time staff, 30 student managers, and 300 student employees. The businesses include Big Red Shipping & Storage (to store students’ belongings over the summer), The Cornellian Yearbook, Student Agencies Tutoring (students tutoring students), Student Agencies Real Estate (real estate rentals in the new Student Agencies building in Collegetown), and more!
