Mobile uploads 🐻🎉 Ithaca Nonprofit Gala, held in NYC (big donors in NYC!!)!!! The Alliance of Families for Justice is 7 years old now, started in Ithaca by Soffiyah Elijah ’76 and Phoebe Brown (Cornell Civic Fellow), with support from Cornell Professor James Turner! AFJ helps everyone visit their loved ones in prison! It is important that prisoners, even when incarcerated, can still see their spouse and kids and friends, but New York State puts prisons in Upstate New York, even if the families are in New York City (most don’t have cars, so 14 hour bus ride with multiple transfers) AFJ provides bus tickets from NYC to Ithaca, and a volunteer drives them to prison, waits, then drives them back to Ithaca, where they take the bus back to NYC. It’s a valiant effort, to add some humanity, to an awful system
