🐻⚖️ I visited Binghamton today!! I went to Deirdre Hay’s campaign launch party, she’s running for NY State Supreme Court! Deirdre is a Cornell law school professor, career advisor for Cornellian LLM students (Master of Law), mostly international students who studied law for undergrad in their home countries, who come to Cornell to prepare for the US bar exams! Deirdre herself comes from Australia!
I met many people who were in Binghamton for many generations. I learned the wonderful history of the Endicott Johnson shoe company, how wonderfully they treated their workers (welcoming to immigrants, good healthcare, free carousel rides). I learned IBM was founded in the area and left, Carrier air conditioning left, a flight simulation company (Link Trainer) left as well.
I learned the optimism around new Lithium Ion batteries, a Binghamton University professor (Stanley Whittingham) won the nobel prize, and the exciting new iM3NY battery company spinout from the lab, that took over IBM’s old headquarters.
I visited a new restaurant (Lost Dog Cafe), a department store (Bocsov’s), a stadium (Visions Veterans Memorial Arena), a river (Chenango), a bar (Fitzies), an old restaurant (Little Venice). I got the minestrone soup to go (was running to the bus), took it back to Ithaca, and ate it at home, it tasted great!!
