Mobile uploads 🐻🏥 Cornell Global Women Health Conference!! 140 attendees from 15 countries came to Weill Cornell, to discuss women health!! I met female doctors from Malawi, Nigeria, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Uganda, Mexico, Peru, Tanzania, India!! women’s health is really multi-faceted!! - on the research side, there needs to be more research funding going to women health issues, starting from basic research (using female lab rats rather than only male lab rats), to more funding (on indications like cervical cancer and post parting depression) - on the social side, I learned a bunch about research techniques, how to build community when there’s stigma around having the disease, how to vaccinate the daughters in school systems and at the same time testing the mother through the daughter for risk of cervical cancer - working in global health is really difficult, there’s less resources, and the government isn’t stable, it’s important to find a way to do the work throughout all the government changes funding is uncertain, yet there is so much hope. researchers worry about stop work orders from NIH. Yet there’s so much hope that diseases like cervical cancer can be completely eliminated within our lifetime, with the new vaccines and diagnostics and therapeutics!! I admire how everyone was so generous with their knowledge, one professor shared setbacks she’s faced over the decades, to show how persistence is so important in a career! the experienced researchers were generous with advice on funding sources, finding mentors, and research techniques! it’s a wonderful community, doing wonderful research!!
