Mobile uploads 🐻🏗️ I visited the NYC campus of the Cornell Architecture School!! they have the best lectures on architecture and urban design!!! last night, I learned how to develop real estate in NYC!! - good urban design, how to create a good retail mix, that encourages people to organically build up a community there, how to redesign cul-de-sacs with a large park, to encourage people to walk and hang out near the waterfront - good architecture, that makes the most of the waterfront, and adding balconies in a tasteful way that alternates patterns, to reduce the facade cluttering, how to plan the build phases (ie build the park fully first, before building the rest of the buildings) - good government processes, how to work with the various government agencies (there’s so many!!), to go through ULURP, for the master plan as well as a each individual building, an iterative process I really like how everything is so applicable!! I’ve been to the Domino neighborhood he was developing!! I look forward to visiting again, to pay attention to all the urban design patterns he mentioned!! the Cornell professors were so friendly, the red wine (5/5) and cheese plate (5/5) were delicilus before and after the lecture!! I really like the mixture of attendees: students (around 30 architecture undergrad and masters students!!), alumni (so many came back and connected with students regarding jobs), and the general public (many architects and developers, as well as everyone interested in urban design and architecture!!) come to future Cornell Architecture events in NYC!! - 4/8 Finding Value Jared Della Valle, CEO and Founder AJ Pires, President of Allon - 4/15 Land Rich/Cash Poor: Marrying Institutional Mission with Development Dan Kaplan, Senior Partner, FXCollatorative Miriam Harris, SVP Transit: Orienta Development; MTA signup for the Eventbrite invite list below!!
