🐻🚀 Cornell students came to NYC this weekend, for the Cornell HealthTech Hackathon!! I attended the final presentations, it was so inspiring!
- a posture device that goes behind your chair to improve your sitting posture
- a pair of glasses that measures brain activity to help with seizures
- a device to measure hormones during pregnancies
- a telehealth app to help patients in rural India
- an orthopedic shoe to help with podiatry issues
an esteemed set of judges (alumni and sponsors!!) gave feedback to the students on their pitches, i.e. device manufacturing, market sizing, unintended consequences (i.e. that may inadvertently cause a seizure)
so many students do Hackathons!! it’s required for the Masters of Public Health students to do a hackathon! and for an Innovation class, students were given a choice of writing a 10-page paper or doing a hackathon! and a bunch of the students did it for fun!! hackathons are so fun!!
Hackathons are the best way to learn about entrepreneurship!! so many of the students at the Hackathon plan to start startups!
- you solve real open ended problems (much different from the problem set homework!!)
- you work with motivated cross-discipline talent (many of the Cornellian startup founders met each other at hackathons!)
- you pitch your startup to judges and answer their questions (much like sales and talking to VCs!!)
There’s so many ways to help the Cornell Hackathon ecosystem!! Alumni can become mentors to the students as they work on their pitches, or a judge to judge the different rounds, or a sponsor/organizer!! there’s so many hackathons to support! (food hackathon, agriculture hackathon, AI hackathon, workforce hackathon, and so much more!!)
Chat with Ami Stuart (the Director of Hackathons at Cornell!!) if you can help out!!
