🐻🐻 Networking Best Practices!!
🐻🐻 Networking Best Practices!!
1) when you text/call someone for the first time, text them your First Name and Last Name, i.e. "hi!! this is Tony Chen ’12, we chatted about organizing a lacrosse event on LinkedIn, I will call you tonight 7pm!!"
- don’t text "hi!! this is John, do you have a few minutes to talk?", because I have no idea who you are, and most of the spam bots are using this line too
2) when you want an introduction to someone (i.e. Alice), explain why it would be beneficial for you to connect, and why it would be beneficial for Alice to connect, i.e. "hi!! I saw that Alice Chen ’12 started a startup for OSHA compliance, she is looking for pilot users, my company is looking for OSHA compliance solutions, can you connect us?"
- don’t say "hi!! do you know Alice?", it doesn’t make sense to make an introduction that only benefits you and wastes Alice’s time
3) when you meet someone for a 2nd time, you should state your First Name and Last Name, where you’ve met before, and what you talked about, i.e "my name is Tony Chen, class of ’12, we met at the Cornell Mets game last month, we talked about marketing trends at ExpoWest", this way, there’s multiple memory triggers to remember you by
- don’t go up to someone you recognize and say "hi!! do you remember me?", it is incredibly difficult to remember someone in a few seconds
