🐻🦅 the National Gallery of Art has an "American Icon" exhibit about the US Flag in Art. It’s such a beautiful flag, and it’s seen so much:
- picture of the flag over the 9/11 memorial
- Neil Armstrong planting it on the moon
- painting of it on JFK’s motorcade during his assassination
- a children’s drawing of the flag from class
- an oil painting, "America is the hope of the world"
- an interview series of schoolkids on what the flag means to them
- at a Vietnam War protest, a man held the flag behind the police line
- an interactive exhibit for kids to draw a flag
- a painting of a black Union soldier standing by the flag in 1863, the Allegory of Freedom
it’s really hot on the National Mall, so I went into the National Gallery of Art to cool down!! it’s been an incredible day so far!! I saw the Artemis II astronauts inspire the next generation of scientists and astronauts, and I saw the Guam traditional dance and I now want to visit Guam!!
America is the greatest country in the world!!!
