I’m learning a lot about the USDA, from the Hall of Fame: - Isabelle Kelley designed and implemented the food stamp program, so children and families have food to eat - George Washington Carver pioneered crop rotation and found new uses for crops - Senator Robert Dole created a federal nutrition safety net, so everyone has the nutrition for a healthy life - Mary-Dell Chilton researched new biotech methods through plant genetics and agrobacterium - Smokey Bear taught everyone that they can prevent wildfires!! (the Forest Service is in USDA!!) - Thomas Monroe Campbell brought best practices from academia to the farmers (cooperative extensions!!) the USDA is a very important government agency!! scientific research and good policy, can have incredible impacts on American lives!!! they said they’ll resume the fireworks and festivities when the storm passes!! super excited!!!
