πŸ»πŸ“ Pre-Thanksgiving Feast!! at Akwe:kon on North Campus, a dorm for Indigenous people and culture!! I had Mohawk Hash (5/5), Hot Scoons (a version of Frybread) (5/5), Pumpkin Pie (5/5), and Strawbery Juice (5/5)!! I learned about the Six Nations (Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, Tuscarora), how important strawberries are to the indigenous people, about all the wonderful events organized by the house celebrating culture. I really liked the artwork on the walls (of turtles and nature), as well as the woodwork around the building!! There are 100-200 indigenous students at Cornell, around 35 students live in Akwe:kon, they have weekly Faculty Fellow dinners (one of the Faculty Fellows lived in Akwe:kon as a student, and came back to Cornell as a professor!!). It is closely tied to the AIISP (American Indian and Indigenous Studies Program), that offers 8 classes, and you can get a minor (offered through CALS). Akwe:kon is raising $25,000 to build a medicinal plants garden, for healing and honoring the indigenous students. Please consider supporting them, crowdfunding link in the comments!!
