yesterday, I had a tough day canvassing, there was a mismatch in campaign and voter sentiment, but I made an effort to listen to the voters, I greatly appreciate the ones who took the time to chat with me, who shared with me where they disagreed I chatted with the volunteers of the other campaigns, it was inspiring to hear their love for their city (DC Statehood), they were sometime confrontational, but after the polls closed, I wished them a good evening, that it was nice to meet them, and we parted on good terms I greatly admire Brooke Pinto ’14 and her staff and volunteers, it was incredible the energy and care they put into the campaign, my canvass buddy was there setting up the tent at 6:30am, canvassed nonstop through polls close at 8pm, she really believed in Brooke I also met incredible constituents, who came up to me to share stories on how Brooke helped them. one constituent worked in the city government, and she appreciated how Brooke asked thoughtful questions that showed she understood the complexities of city agencies, and cared about finding a solution. one constituent came with her 5 year old daughter, they went to Brooke’s campaign events together, and the little girl loves the color pink I believe in Cornellians, I believe Cornellians are incredible public servants, and I hope more Cornellians will run for office.
